Pacers get: PG Jeff Teague
Jazz get: PG George Hill
Hawks get: #12 overall draft pick (via Utah) [SF Taurean Prince, Sophomore, Baylor]
Effectively, President Larry Bird just swapped point guards here: out with Hill, and in with Teague. And what an excellent swap it was. Hill is by no means a bad player or anything, averaging 12.1 points and 3.5 assists on solid shooting percentages, but he was clearly not the missing piece in Indiana's offense. You know things are bad when SG Monta Ellis is leading your team in assists (4.7).
Teague is the spark that the Pacers need. His expiring $8 million contract is a major steal, and this trade only looks better for them if they are able to sign the point guard to a fair extension. Teague is a very consistent player in that you know what you're getting from him night in and night out: last season he put up a very solid 15.7 points and 5.9 assists per game. A talented ball-handler as well, Teague is perfect for complementing and setting up Indy's main scorers in Ellis and superstar SF Paul George, while also able to put the ball in the bucket himself. If the Pacers can add another key big man this offseason, we're looking at a very scary playoff team. Excellent move by Bird to get a better point guard for free.
