RAJON RONDO made some pretty stupid, and frankly unacceptable comments this past week. After being ejected against the Boston Celtics, the Sacramento Kings point guard "proceeded to stalk Kennedy [the referee] and unleashed a flurry of anti-gay slurs towards [Kennedy]." Bill Kennedy, 49, has recently come out as the first openly gay NBA referee, stating: "I am proud to be an NBA referee and I am proud to be a gay man... [I hope to] send a message to young men and women in sports that you must allow no one to make you feel ashamed of who you are." Rondo initially refused to apologize for his actions, but has since done so: "[My actions] absolutely do not reflect my feelings toward the LGBT community." Is it just me or are Rondo and the Kings always making headlines for all the wrong reasons?
THE WARRIORS lost a game... finally. After ripping out 24 straight dubs, the Milwaukee Bucks and a triple-double from Giannis Antetokounmpo improved to 10-15 while dropping Golden State to 24-1, but not before Steph Curry and Co set numerous records along the way. If you count the four at the end of last season, the Warriors' 28 straight regular season wins ranks second all time, ahead of the 2013 Miami Heat and behind only the 1972 Los Angeles Lakers, who had 33 consecutive victories. Guess who ended that Lakers streak? The Bucks.
THE ROCKETS continue to experience turmoil. Initially thought to be title contenders, this uber-talented squad sits at 12-13 over a quarter of the way through the season. Head Coach Kevin McHale is fired, and oddly hasn't been replaced by an available big name like Tom Thibodeau. J.B Bickerstaff, the interim coach, continues to attempt to lead, while big-acquisition PG Ty Lawson has been a disaster and relegated to the bench, and PF Terrence Jones sits on the trading block. Star C Dwight Howard is averaging only 13.5 points per game, while superstar SG James Harden, while still absolutely dominant, is shooting inefficiently on offense. Friction in the locker room is reportedly ensuing. Something's gotta change. FAST.
THE TRADE BLOCK has been heating up lately. And Kings superstar C DeMarcus Cousins is of course at the forefront, as his name and "trade block" are rather synonymous at this point, especially as Sacramento endures another miserable season. This can likely be dismissed as simply rumors, but the Celtics, Heat, and Bulls have all reportedly expressed interest, despite management's continual denial to part ways with the All-Star. Star Piston PG Brandon Jennings, who still hasn't played a single game this season due to a torn achilles, has reportedly heard his name surface a few times, as PG Reggie Jackson has played admirably in a full-time starter's role to the point where his once-crazy $80 million extension is looking justifiable. Does Jackson's presence make Jennings expendable? Maybe. I don't know. Ask Detroit's GM.
