Pacers get: SF/PF Thaddeus Young
Nets get: 20th overall pick (SG Caris LeVert, Senior, Michigan), Future second-rounder
Another brilliant move by Pacers GM Kevin Britchard. After adding Jeff Teague the day before this trade was made, Britchard finds yet another excellent compliment to superstar SF Paul George in the starting lineup. Thad Young is exactly that, averaging 15.1 points, 9 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game on 51.4% shooting from the field this past season in Brooklyn. Young’s top-notch ability to score down low and defend the interior will give the team a skillset they haven’t had since the big man duo of David West and Roy Hibbert were patrolling the paint in Indiana. With big man Jordan Hill’s contract expiring, Young figures to be a nice fit up front next to promising youngster C Myles Turner. Young’s reasonable contract of 4 years/$50 million at 28 years old is also of no concern. A starting five of Teague, SG Monta Ellis, George, Young, and Turner could very well bring the Pacers right back to where they were before George’s gruesome injury a couple years ago. Thus Britchard should focus his efforts this summer on finding competent backups for his new core. Additionally, for a team with so much flexibility and talent right now, a late first-rounder is of little concern. Excellent move.
